What is a 404 Error?

If you’ve spent any time on the internet, more than likely you’ve come across something that looks like this:

Basically, the link you clicked didn’t work, because the URL you were looking for was moved, deleted, or renamed — bummer. This is called a 404 Error.

Common causes for 404 Errors include:

  • Platform migrations
  • Typos
  • Old bookmarks customers have saved

404s are also commonly referred to as bad links or dead links. The remedy for a 404 Error is a 301 Redirect.
